Kashif Malik as Sam
Originally we had Kashif cast as Sam. We had got as far as a photo shoot and a location shoot with him. He knew the script and was perfectly prepared to play the role. Aside from his age we felt Kashif fulfilled the role of Sam very well. We liked his spontaneity and the way in which he immersed into Sam's emotional environment without much work. His connection to the character was natural. However when we began deciding dates for days we wanted to shoot, Kashif had to withdraw from his part in this group due to personal reasons.
At the time we thought this was a catastrophe and were sure all hope was lost, but with a team effort and a lot of struggling we managed to find a replacement for Sam within the week. The actor to replace Kashif was Joshua Bradley; who we had actually kept in mind for Sam's role previously.
Joshua wasn't confident at first, but he was willing to help us and without realising it, he brought out the deeper depths to Sam's character and really pulled though for us.
